From the Pastor: So what about prayer? What difference does it make? Why do people of faith still pray when people continue to have accidents and heart trouble and more…? You can hear all sorts of accounts from people about prayer that was answered just as hoped. Time after time people of faith see how God's hand is at work in the circumstances of our daily lives. Sometimes it seems that God has not answered, or at least not answered as we had hoped. Still prayer makes a big difference. Prayer is not a way to control events. Thankfully God has that place. We do know that prayer can change us. Prayer gives us new understanding. It can give us that peace of God even if events are still as they were. Prayer can open our eyes to see things in a new way. We don't know all the ways that prayer changes things, some of this is and should be mystery. For example, God may grant us the heart to see that an "enemy's" actions come from an inward broken or hurt place. That can change everything. God may grant us the heart to see the wonderful gifts in a person in whom we previously could see none at all. The more we pray, the more our prayers change. We move from let " so and so love me," to "Lord make me more loving." We move from "make him stop drinking" to "help me set good boundaries and manage things as they are." And then you never know….. trust God who loves you, trust God who has other names like mercy and hope and grace. Trust the God of life whom eternity cannot hold. I hope you will find your moments for prayer this summer and experience the peace of God in fresh new ways. God Bless, Susan Strang e Hills.
